Session Road Ripping Off??

And here I was so pissed with the state of the local pop scene... 4 out of 10 songs on the MYX hit chart are all revivals... I was like "at least bands come up with their own stuff!” Session Road ... I really really like their song "Leaving You" and it turns out it's a super dooper rip off of an old British song. It's bad enough you can sing "Suntok Sa Buwan" against the melody of Smashing Pumpkins' "Mayonnaise"...that still falls under tribute or sampling, but this is just a plain rip off. How lazy a song writer are you to just re outfit a song with similar lyrics?! Here check it out for yourselves

My Comment:  The way I see it, originality has been a problem here in the Philippines. Musicians here have referenced their music through MTV, Radio, favorite songs but always missing out on the most important aspect of musicality, which is education. I know education is a big word and some people might get offended but I’m not saying Filipino musicians are stupid. In fact Filipino’s are very musical but the problem begins with the fact that they concentrate more on referencing their music rather than studying music for what it is. Music theory, composition, notation etc... I know they’re all boring classes to take but these are classes that can provide musician elements for writing songs with originality. A lot of people nowadays blame it on the recording industry, trending and radio stations but for me there's no one to blame but the musician itself. Carlos Santana, one of the best guitar players of our time still studies music at his age. Yet I see young blood here with a lot of talent but mixed with arrogance thinking they’re the best simply because of the fact that they ripped of somebody else’s song. It's a shame. Music is like golf. It's something you can never perfect and it's up to the musician when they want to stop being educated. My take, Learn more riffs, theories, scales etc... Study music for what it is other than making a song out of studying somebody else’s music. Maybe this is a wake up call for musicians to stretch their skills in writing music. I have been disturbed by this fact for the longest time I’m just glad other people are beginning to realize it. Peace!!!

*Of People on Philippine TV That I Hate Right Now*

I hate Geoff & John Joe. Two VJs from the the two music channels I watch. The way the Geoff kid speaks is annoying... he's as painful to watch as Cindy Kurleto speaking Tagalog. His hands are always in his pockets & he delivers spoils like he's constipated. MYX people! What is wrong with you? Do you not have directors?

The John Joe person on the other hand delivers spoils decently. It pains me though to watch him interview artists. I recently saw his interview with Cynthia Alexander. He opened with something like "It is my honor to introduce to you a musical giant blah blah" I could feel Cynthia's eyeballs roll off camera. That was so embarrassing for him to talk like that. Was he condescending or just dumb? You could see Cynthia¡¯s mild annoyance. Cynthia knows that she no giant... she's lucky to even have MTV airplay at all... Cynthia is a musician's musician. Person artists look up to but the general public are totally oblivious about. Why introduce her like she was Regine Velasquez? Where did MTV get this person?
